"Charged with deep emotion, profound historical insights, and an urgent call to action, this book is impossible to ignore." — Angeline Ondaatjie
A Speech to Sri Lanka from 2048 is a short novel about an awards speech delivered in the year of 2048, outlining the three laws that helped Sri Lanka cross the US$40,000 per capita GPD mark, bringing the country to prosperity. It details the key strategies in education, leadership, energy, environment, jobs, and civil society, which lead to this future.
The Mission
In 2048, Sri Lanka is 10 times richer than it is today.
With that future in mind, Asanka de Mel has a plan to incite collective action toward national development over the next 25 years. Through book and film, de Mel demonstrates the challenges and opportunities that will shape the nation’s path to developed status. Sri Lanka can navigate issues inside and out, and emerge as a leader in the Asia Pacific Region by implementing core key principles in education, energy and leadership.
Both mediums in their own way challenge readers to reflect on what Sri Lanka will face, and how achieving developed nation status is not only possible, but necessary, in the face of mounting climate change.
